The Manitoba government is starting a two-year pilot program for a new health and physical education curriculum called “Every Body, Every Day.”
The renewed curriculum would make in-person physical education mandatory for all students from kindergarten to Grade 12. The goal is to make sure every student gets regular physical activity.
Premier Wab Kinew announced that the program is meant to help children be healthier, more confident and happier by encouraging them to spend less time on screens and move more.
Schools across Manitoba can pilot the curriculum. If you are interested in joining, please reach out to your school principal and/or superintendent. Pilot registration is due Monday August 31.
The new curriculum will teach students about issues such as:
Mental health and the effects of social media and artificial intelligence
The marketing of vapes and supplements
Safety risks related to e-scooters
Healthy exercise and nutrition habits.
Premier Kinew says the goal is to help Manitoba students develop healthy habits that can improve their health throughout their lives.
