GLO 3 Strand B: Safety of Self and Others

Identify safety symbols, hazards, and risks in everyday living
 
Identify unsafe situations related to the environment and safety rules for own protection

Identify practices to prevent injuries related to indoor and outdoor play
 
Recognize safety helpers in the community
 
Identify unsafe situations and safety rules for child protection
 
 
GLO 4 Strand A: Personal Development 
Identify characteristics that describe self as special and unique
 
Recognize that it takes time, effort, and cooperation to achieve simple individual tasks/goals and group tasks/goals
 
Discuss behaviours that demonstrate personal responsibility and irresponsibility in a classroom
 
Identify daily decisions and/or choices and how choices are made for health and well-being
 
Set simple short-term goals and participate in strategies for goal attainment
 
Sort decisions and/or choices that are made daily, based on their positive or negative consequences
 
 
GLO 4 Strand B: Social Development 
Identify examples of responsible social behaviours for getting along with others in school and schoolyard
 
Discuss how feelings and experiences associated with participation in physical activities/sports, and/or social events can be the same or different from person to person
 
Identify ways to show a person is listening attentively when communicating
 
Identify activities that friends do together
 
Identify what can happen when someone becomes angry and healthy ways to deal with anger
Identify several causes of conflicts that may occur in class or play situations
 
Identify ways to avoid or reduce potential conflict situations

GLO 4 Strand C: Mental Emotional Development 
Identify a range of feelings and emotions in a range of contexts
 
Recognize ways emotions are expressed by others
 
Identify situations that cause feelings of anxiety or stress

GLO 5 Strand A: Personal Health Practices 
Identify daily habits for leading a physically active and healthy life
 
Identify common communicable diseases/illness/conditions  in the classroom and home, and ways to prevent the spread of disease/illness/ conditions
 
Show an understanding of the changes related to growth and development of teeth, and proper dental care

Record, with assistance, daily practices for personal health (i.e., dental and hygiene practices)
 
 
GLO 5 Strand B: Active Living 
Identify the health benefits of participating in regular physical activity
 
Identify physical activities that are enjoyable and fun through a variety of strategies
 
Discuss how automation has an impact on daily physical activity
 
Record, with assistance, daily physical activities that are enjoyable for families to do
 
 
GLO 5 Strand C: Nutrition
 
Recognize the food guide rainbow and a variety of foods in Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating (CFGHE)

Recognize that you need food to grow and feel good
 
Identify the need for daily food and fluid to support physical activity

Match a variety of healthy snacks to food groups and "other foods"

Experience a variety of foods in each food group, respecting individual diversity, cultural traditions, and allergies
 
 
GLO 5 Strand D: Substance Use and Abuse Prevention 
Identify helpful and harmful substances found in the home and school
 
Identify helpful and/or harmful substances and their effects on a healthy body
 
Demonstrate appropriate healthy choices in case scenarios related to substance use
 
 
GLO 5 Strand E: Human Sexuality
 
Identify the major parts of the body by their appropriate
 
Show the understanding that people have a right to privacy
